FMSiS - 1st Primary School to achieve Standard

Date: 05-Mar-07

Holy Apostles' Church of England Primary School in Gloucestershire is the 1st Primary School in England to achieve the Financial Management Standard in Schools (FMSiS).

We have received the following comments from the school about the FMSiS procedure:

"Our experience at Holy Apostles' was very positive. Having first learned about the FMSIS at a seminar in October 2004 run by KPMG, I took the view that there was a high degree of match between much of our practice and the Standard. Fortunately, my Finance Secretary agreed and, in February 2006, so did our county auditors.

Yes, there is a need for paper work but, provided existing systems are reasonably in place and functioning, then the overall requirement is not too burdensome.

And yes, we did derive a sense of achievement and excitement at being the first primary school in the country to be accredited with the FMSIS! (Mr Gareth Davies, Head Teacher, Holy Apostles' Church of England Primary School in Gloucestershire)".

"The Standard does not require any new responsibilities, but the assessment does require the school's financial procedures to be documented in reasonable detail." (Linda Talbot - Finance Secretary)

"The FMSIS is a welcome endorsement of the school's very good financial practice and reflects the strong teamwork that brings it about." ([Mrs] Chris Brooker - Chair of Governors and Chair of the Governors' Finance Committee).
