Welcome to the School Organisation Website

This site is for local authorities, governing bodies, promoters and parents.

It contains guidance on a range of subjects, including:

  • opening a new school (by competition or otherwise)
  • closing a school
  • expanding a school
  • changing school category
  • proposals for Trust schools

If you are eligible to register to use the Members´ Area you can also access tools to build statutory notices to make changes to schools.

4 June:  We are currently having problems receiving draft statutory notices for checking sent via the Notice Builder tool and requests for registration to the Members' Area, for which we apologise.

Until further notice, please copy and paste your draft notice, created on the Notice Builder tool, into a Word document, and email to school.organisation@dcsf.gsi.gov.uk, for checking (DO NOT USE THE 'SOU CHECK' FACILITY).

To register for the members' area, please send an email directly to school.organisation@dcsf.gsi.gov.uk, putting 'sign-up request' in the title bar, and include the following information:  first name, surname, email address, telephone, your role/position (eg job title if LEA/Diocesan official, role on GB), the name of your Organisation/School and your contact address.

The 'Contact Us' facility is also not working, so please email your query directly to school.organisation@dcsf.gsi.gov.uk.

You should receive a response within 5 working days.
