Effective Practice

Our aim is to provide information, case studies and opportunities for the sharing of good practice on school attendance as part of the Government's aim to raise educational standards for all.

This website is to provide Local Education Authorities, Schools, Headteachers, Teachers, School Governors, Police Authorities, Social Services, Parents, Magistrates, Youth Offending Teams and Local Group information on school attendance issues and share examples of good practice that have been introduced by individual schools and LEAs.

The Audit Commission has been actively promoting the good management of school attendance and behaviour by Local Education Authorities.

Successful Attendance Practice Manual - The manual provides effective practice on improving attendance and reducing persistent absence

 

Improving Attendance: guidance for Academies - This area identifies effective practice that Academies may wish to adopt when considering attendance policy and practice.


Effective Attendance practice in Schools - An Overview - The document provides an overview of the themes that schools have found useful in relation to school attendance.


Effective Attendance Practice in Schools Advice for Governors - The document sets out some approaches based on effective practice, followed by schools that have made improvements in attendance.


Effective Attendance Practice at the Local Authority Level - The document sets out effective practice in leadership, Management and support for schools.


Participation in Sport - The document gives advice on recording absence for pupils' participation in sporting activities including local community celebrations.


An Audit Tool for Registration Inspection - The purpose of this document is to provide an audit tool for registration practice and procedures.

Guidance on the attendance of pupils with special education needs (SEN) - This document aims to help all schools to improve levels of attendance and reduce the numbers of pupils with specail educational needs who have persistent absence


National Audit Office - Improving School Attendance A Summary for Schools - This leaflet has been written to disseminate the lessons from the NAO Report - Improving School Attendance in England



Tackling it Together is a CD Toolkit of measures, procedures and protocols to enable Education Welfare to promote attendance. The files from the CD are available to download.
