Directgov- Directgov is the place to turn for the widest range of government information and services.
info4local.gov.uk- Provides local authorities with quick and easy access to information from more than 65 government departments, agencies and public bodies. It is run by a group of six departments, with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister in the lead.
Trends in Education and Skills- This site offers easy access to a range of statistical evidence across the whole of the education spectrum, from the early years through to adult learning. It is recommended as a starting point for anyone wishing to obtain statistical information on the subject of Education and Skills.
National Statistics- The latest National Statistics Work Programme for the years 2005/06 - 2007/08 is the fourth programme produced. It presents the key work planned by the Government Statistical Service (GSS) and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) during 2005/06 - 2007/08. There is a specific chapter on Education and Training in Section 16.
Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted)- Ofsted is the inspectorate for children and learners in England. It is their job to contribute to the provision of better education and care through effective inspection and regulation.
Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA)- QCA is a non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Children, Schools and Families. QCA maintains and develops the national curriculum and associated assessments, tests and examinations, and accredits and monitors qualifications in colleges and at work.
Training and Development Agency for Schools- Information is given on becoming a teacher, the teacher training process, experience in teaching, and what life is like as a teacher.
Scottish Executive statistics- The aim of the statistical service in the Scottish Executive is to provide relevant and reliable statistical information, analysis and advice that meets the needs of government.
Department of Education for Northern Ireland- The Department of Education for Northern Ireland is responsible for the central adminstration of all aspects of education and related services in Northern Ireland - excepting the higher and further education sector, responsibility for which is within the remit of the Department for Employment and Learning.
National Assembly for Wales- The Welsh Assembly collect, process, interpret and publish information about Wales, and promote its use in decision making within government and beyond.
Learning and Skills Council (LSC)- The LSC exists to make England better skilled and more competitive. They have a single goal: to improve the skills of England's young people and adults to make sure we have a workforce that is of world-class standards.
Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA)- HESA was set up in 1993, and is now the central source for higher education statistics and has standardised and streamlined the data collection and publication process to become a respected point of reference.
HM Treasury- The Performance and Innovation Unit report, "Wiring it up", recommended developing a national strategy for performance information. The purpose of this report is to outline the key component of the government's strategy to improve performance information.
Centre of Economics of Education (CEE)- The Centre for the Economics of Education was established in March 2000 and is now beginning its second cycle of funding from the DfES. The CEE is a multidisciplinary centre with three partners: The Centre for Economic Performance at LSE; the Institute for Fiscal Studies; and the Institute of Education. The CEE seeks to undertake systematic and innovative research in the field of the economics of education by applying the latest techniques of empirical analysis.
Centre for Research on the Wider Benefits of Learning (WBL)- The Centre for Research on the Wider Benefits of Learning was created by the DfES in 1999 to investigate the benefits gained from learning across the life course. WBL's research explores the multi-level, social benefits of learning in terms of the well-being and quality of life of individuals, their families and communities across local, national and international areas.
British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (Becta)- Becta is the Government's key partner in the strategic development and delivery of its information and communications technology (ICT) and e-learning strategy for the schools and the learning and skills sectors. Their purpose is to apply the power if ICT to support learning.

Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)- The OECD collects statistics needed for the analysis of economic and social developments by its in-house analysts, committees, working parties, and member country governments from statistical agencies and other institutions of its member countries. The OECD shares the experience gained by members in compiling reliable and comparable statistics with non-member countries.
Eurostat- The statistical arm of the European Commission. This link takes you to the Eurostat website which contains information on statistical publications (including "Key data on Education" and "Key data on Vocational Training") and how to request ad-hoc analyses.
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)- The UNESCO Institute for Statistics provides global and internationally comparable statistics on education, science, technology, culture and communication. Access to an online database of education and training information and publications are available on this site.
