Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1000 per pupil in real terms to Surrey Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 34 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 7451 in 1997 to 346 by January 2005.
  • 1640 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 1950 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 82 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 74 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 78 per cent from 70 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 85 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 79 per cent in mathematics in Surrey LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Surrey LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 54 per cent in 1998 to 61 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 21400 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
