Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £960 per pupil in real terms to Suffolk Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 34 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 3229 in 1997 to 354 by January 2005.
  • 960 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 1570 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 75 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 64 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 69 per cent from 62 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 78 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 71 per cent in mathematics in Suffolk LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Suffolk LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 49 per cent in 1998 to 57 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 12900 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
