Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1010 per pupil in real terms to Oxfordshire Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 34 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 2790 in 1997 to 358 by January 2005.
  • 940 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 1480 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 65 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 73 per cent from 64 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 80 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 74 per cent in mathematics in Oxfordshire LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Oxfordshire LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 47 per cent in 1998 to 53 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 12900 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
