Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1100 per pupil in real terms to Northamptonshire Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 40 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 5145 in 1997 to 626 by January 2005.
  • 870 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 1810 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 66 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 72 per cent from 65 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 81 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 75 per cent in mathematics in Northamptonshire LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Northamptonshire LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 45 per cent in 1998 to 52 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 14000 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
