Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1070 per pupil in real terms to Cornwall Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 38 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 4667 in 1997 to 310 by January 2005.
  • 1110 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 1310 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 74 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 67 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 72 per cent from 67 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 78 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 74 per cent in mathematics in Cornwall LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Cornwall LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 51 per cent in 1998 to 55 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 8700 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
