Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1080 per pupil in real terms to Telford & Wrekin Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 38 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 543 in 1999 to 129 by January 2005.
  • 320 MORE teaching assistants than in 1999
  • 390 MORE support staff than in 1999
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 72 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 55 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 70 per cent from 54 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 73 per cent in mathematics in Telford & Wrekin LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Telford & Wrekin LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 45 per cent in 1998 to 54 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 3700 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
