Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1060 per pupil in real terms to Shropshire Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 38 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 1113 in 1999 to 316 by January 2005.
  • 430 MORE teaching assistants than in 1999
  • 460 MORE support staff than in 1999
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 78 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 67 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 75 per cent from 65 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 81 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 77 per cent in mathematics in Shropshire LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Shropshire LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 53 per cent in 1998 to 63 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 5400 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
