Education
- Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1010 per pupil in real terms to Medway Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 35 per cent.
- The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 3470 in 1999 to 31 by January 2005.
- 520 MORE teaching assistants than in 1999
- 750 MORE support staff than in 1999
- Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 70 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 60 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 67 per cent from 58 per cent in 1997.
- Provisional figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 69 per cent in mathematics in Medway LA.
- GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Medway LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 44 per cent in 1998 to 52 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
- In 2005 there were 5500 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
