Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1060 per pupil in real terms to Thurrock Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 34 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 1013 in 1999 to 62 by January 2005.
  • 360 MORE teaching assistants than in 1999
  • 460 MORE support staff than in 1999
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 67 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 53 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 65 per cent from 48 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 73 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 69 per cent in mathematics in Thurrock LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Thurrock LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 35 per cent in 1998 to 45 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 3100 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
