Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £940 per pupil in real terms to Devon Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 33 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 1769 in 1999 to 126 by January 2005.
  • 1680 MORE teaching assistants than in 1999
  • 1720 MORE support staff than in 1999
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 75 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 63 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 74 per cent from 63 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 80 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 76 per cent in mathematics in Devon LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Devon LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 47 per cent in 1998 to 55 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 12200 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
