Education
- Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1320 per pupil in real terms to West Berkshire Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 48 per cent.
- The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 500 in 1999 to 232 by January 2005.
- 350 MORE teaching assistants than in 1999
- 470 MORE support staff than in 1999
- Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 69 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 73 per cent from 66 per cent in 1997.
- Provisional figures for 2005 show that 81 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 75 per cent in mathematics in West Berkshire LA.
- GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in West Berkshire LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 55 per cent in 1998 to 60 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
- In 2005 there were 2900 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
