Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £990 per pupil in real terms to Swindon Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 36 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 2572 in 1998 to 157 by January 2005.
  • 130 MORE teaching assistants than in 1998
  • 460 MORE support staff than in 1998
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 73 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 62 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 72 per cent from 59 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 75 per cent in mathematics in Swindon LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Swindon LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 44 per cent in 1998 to 47 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 3900 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
