Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1440 per pupil in real terms to Stoke-on-Trent Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 52 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 2525 in 1998 to 161 by January 2005.
  • 360 MORE teaching assistants than in 1998
  • 710 MORE support staff than in 1998
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 68 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 57 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 65 per cent from 54 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 71 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 67 per cent in mathematics in Stoke-on-Trent LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Stoke-on-Trent LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 33 per cent in 1998 to 47 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 4800 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
