Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1040 per pupil in real terms to Staffordshire Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 39 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 8290 in 1998 to 381 by January 2005.
  • 1110 MORE teaching assistants than in 1998
  • 1680 MORE support staff than in 1998
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 75 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 66 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 73 per cent from 65 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 79 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 77 per cent in mathematics in Staffordshire LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Staffordshire LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 45 per cent in 1998 to 54 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 15100 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
