Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £970 per pupil in real terms to Hampshire Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 35 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 14910 in 1998 to 640 by January 2005.
  • 1440 MORE teaching assistants than in 1998
  • 2010 MORE support staff than in 1998
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 78 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 68 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 74 per cent from 67 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 82 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 78 per cent in mathematics in Hampshire LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Hampshire LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 51 per cent in 1998 to 60 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 24000 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
