Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £810 per pupil in real terms to Bournemouth Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 27 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 2565 in 1998 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 270 MORE teaching assistants than in 1998
  • 310 MORE support staff than in 1998
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 78 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 68 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 71 per cent from 63 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 78 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 74 per cent in mathematics in Bournemouth LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Bournemouth LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 49 per cent in 1998 to 52 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 2700 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
