Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £960 per pupil in real terms to Dorset Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 34 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 4156 in 1998 to 35 by January 2005.
  • 970 MORE teaching assistants than in 1998
  • 1090 MORE support staff than in 1998
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 68 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 73 per cent from 67 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 82 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 78 per cent in mathematics in Dorset LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Dorset LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 50 per cent in 1998 to 60 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 6600 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
