Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1090 per pupil in real terms to Bedfordshire Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 38 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 3745 in 1998 to 252 by January 2005.
  • 660 MORE teaching assistants than in 1998
  • 990 MORE support staff than in 1998
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 77 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 65 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 71 per cent from 60 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 80 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 74 per cent in mathematics in Bedfordshire LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Bedfordshire LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 47 per cent in 1998 to 53 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 8500 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
