Education
- Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1020 per pupil in real terms to York Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 38 per cent.
- The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 1074 in 1997 to 94 by January 2005.
- 300 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
- 400 MORE support staff than in 1997
- Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 75 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 69 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 74 per cent from 68 per cent in 1997.
- Provisional figures for 2005 show that 81 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 78 per cent in mathematics in York LA.
- GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in York LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 49 per cent in 1998 to 60 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
- In 2005 there were 3400 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
