Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1110 per pupil in real terms to North Yorkshire Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 40 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 4808 in 1997 to 228 by January 2005.
  • 1120 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 1480 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 80 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 73 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 77 per cent from 72 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 83 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 79 per cent in mathematics in North Yorkshire LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in North Yorkshire LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 56 per cent in 1998 to 62 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 10500 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
