Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1070 per pupil in real terms to East Riding of Yorkshire Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 40 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 3163 in 1997 to 248 by January 2005.
  • 540 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 850 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 66 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 74 per cent from 66 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 83 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 78 per cent in mathematics in East Riding of Yorkshire LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in East Riding of Yorkshire LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 47 per cent in 1998 to 61 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 5700 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
