Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1040 per pupil in real terms to South Gloucestershire Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 40 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 3752 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 320 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 430 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 78 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 67 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 75 per cent from 65 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 83 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 77 per cent in mathematics in South Gloucestershire LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in South Gloucestershire LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 45 per cent in 1998 to 55 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 5000 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
