Education
- Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1070 per pupil in real terms to North Somerset Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 39 per cent.
- The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 1635 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
- 260 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
- 370 MORE support staff than in 1997
- Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 77 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 70 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 74 per cent from 69 per cent in 1997.
- Provisional figures for 2005 show that 85 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 79 per cent in mathematics in North Somerset LA.
- GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in North Somerset LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 52 per cent in 1998 to 57 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
- In 2005 there were 3500 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
