Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1340 per pupil in real terms to Bristol, City of Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 47 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 3708 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 460 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 680 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 67 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 54 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 65 per cent from 52 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 70 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 67 per cent in mathematics in Bristol, City of LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Bristol, City of LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 29 per cent in 1998 to 36 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 8000 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
