Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1220 per pupil in real terms to Wakefield Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 45 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 4151 in 1997 to 350 by January 2005.
  • 430 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 650 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 73 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 60 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 72 per cent from 59 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 75 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 77 per cent in mathematics in Wakefield LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Wakefield LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 39 per cent in 1998 to 56 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 6800 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
