Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1240 per pupil in real terms to Leeds Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 45 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 7817 in 1997 to 443 by January 2005.
  • 1000 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 1800 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 63 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 75 per cent from 63 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 79 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 76 per cent in mathematics in Leeds LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Leeds LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 38 per cent in 1998 to 48 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 14700 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
