Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1260 per pupil in real terms to Kirklees Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 45 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 5437 in 1997 to 93 by January 2005.
  • 830 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 1230 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 72 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 57 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 70 per cent from 58 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 77 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 73 per cent in mathematics in Kirklees LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Kirklees LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 40 per cent in 1998 to 50 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 8700 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
