Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1260 per pupil in real terms to Calderdale Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 46 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 2398 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 520 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 650 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 75 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 60 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 74 per cent from 62 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 81 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 77 per cent in mathematics in Calderdale LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Calderdale LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 39 per cent in 1998 to 54 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 4400 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
