Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1230 per pupil in real terms to Rotherham Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 44 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 2546 in 1997 to 135 by January 2005.
  • 690 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 1050 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 69 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 57 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 68 per cent from 58 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 77 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 73 per cent in mathematics in Rotherham LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Rotherham LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 37 per cent in 1998 to 48 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 5400 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
