Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1380 per pupil in real terms to Wolverhampton Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 47 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 3718 in 1997 to 101 by January 2005.
  • 190 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 700 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 69 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 60 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 65 per cent from 51 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 74 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 68 per cent in mathematics in Wolverhampton LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Wolverhampton LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 35 per cent in 1998 to 54 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 5500 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
