Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1310 per pupil in real terms to Walsall Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 47 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 2505 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 570 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 790 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 71 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 56 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 65 per cent from 52 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 77 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 70 per cent in mathematics in Walsall LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Walsall LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 35 per cent in 1998 to 46 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 6200 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
