Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1080 per pupil in real terms to Solihull Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 41 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 3862 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 330 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 540 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 79 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 70 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 78 per cent from 69 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 84 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 80 per cent in mathematics in Solihull LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Solihull LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 52 per cent in 1998 to 64 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 4400 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
