Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1270 per pupil in real terms to Coventry Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 44 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 3220 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 390 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 790 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 72 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 60 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 69 per cent from 58 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 73 per cent in mathematics in Coventry LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Coventry LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 37 per cent in 1998 to 46 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 6500 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
