Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1280 per pupil in real terms to Waltham Forest Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 35 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 916 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 400 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 710 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 70 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 57 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 68 per cent from 54 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 73 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 69 per cent in mathematics in Waltham Forest LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Waltham Forest LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 37 per cent in 1998 to 47 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 5500 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
