Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1030 per pupil in real terms to Richmond upon Thames Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 34 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 1625 in 1997 to 99 by January 2005.
  • 230 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 280 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 87 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 76 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 82 per cent from 75 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 88 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 85 per cent in mathematics in Richmond upon Thames LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Richmond upon Thames LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 51 per cent in 1998 to 55 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 3900 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
