Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1000 per pupil in real terms to Redbridge Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 30 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 2331 in 1997 to 127 by January 2005.
  • 630 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 860 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 78 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 65 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 74 per cent from 59 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 83 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 79 per cent in mathematics in Redbridge LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Redbridge LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 55 per cent in 1998 to 69 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 5800 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
