Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1250 per pupil in real terms to Kingston upon Thames Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 42 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 2993 in 1997 to 31 by January 2005.
  • 510 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 980 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 83 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 72 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 77 per cent from 68 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 86 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 82 per cent in mathematics in Kingston upon Thames LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Kingston upon Thames LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 59 per cent in 1998 to 66 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 3000 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
