Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1140 per pupil in real terms to Croydon Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 35 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 3695 in 1997 to 31 by January 2005.
  • 610 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 790 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 78 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 63 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 71 per cent from 61 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 78 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 72 per cent in mathematics in Croydon LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Croydon LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 40 per cent in 1998 to 53 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 7500 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
