Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1470 per pupil in real terms to Brent Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 39 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 757 in 1997 to 94 by January 2005.
  • 380 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 610 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 77 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 61 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 72 per cent from 60 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 78 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 73 per cent in mathematics in Brent LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Brent LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 45 per cent in 1998 to 57 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 5800 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
