Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1050 per pupil in real terms to Bexley Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 35 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 4061 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 400 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 700 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 77 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 68 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 69 per cent from 65 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 80 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 74 per cent in mathematics in Bexley LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Bexley LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 48 per cent in 1998 to 55 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 4800 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
