Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1400 per pupil in real terms to Barking and Dagenham Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 44 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 909 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 240 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 400 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 71 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 52 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 69 per cent from 54 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 75 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 70 per cent in mathematics in Barking and Dagenham LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Barking and Dagenham LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 31 per cent in 1998 to 49 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 4000 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
