Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1520 per pupil in real terms to Westminster Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 36 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 189 in 1997 to 31 by January 2005.
  • 270 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 380 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 80 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 63 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 77 per cent from 63 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 81 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 76 per cent in mathematics in Westminster LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Westminster LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 35 per cent in 1998 to 45 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 3500 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
