Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1490 per pupil in real terms to Wandsworth Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 38 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 1010 in 1997 to 63 by January 2005.
  • 400 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 640 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 75 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 61 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 67 per cent from 59 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 80 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 72 per cent in mathematics in Wandsworth LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Wandsworth LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 35 per cent in 1998 to 51 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 5800 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
