Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £2060 per pupil in real terms to Tower Hamlets Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 47 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 475 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 780 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 870 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 74 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 47 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 71 per cent from 51 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 77 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 76 per cent in mathematics in Tower Hamlets LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Tower Hamlets LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 28 per cent in 1998 to 47 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 5600 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
