Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1810 per pupil in real terms to Kensington and Chelsea Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 42 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 94 in 1997 to 31 by January 2005.
  • 170 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 180 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 84 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 67 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 79 per cent from 66 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 84 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 81 per cent in mathematics in Kensington and Chelsea LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Kensington and Chelsea LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 45 per cent in 1998 to 60 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 2300 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
