DCSF: Pupil absence - Autumn 2006 term report and Spring 2007 term report
| Description | This is a new release reporting on absence data collected via the School Census on a termly basis. Two of these reports will be published each year - one relating to absence in the autumn term, the second relating to absence in the spring term. Each release will provide local level information on the rates of absence (authorised, unauthorised and overall) by type of school; number of enrolments who are (or are on track to becoming) persistent absentees; and the proportion of absence by reason. The report is not a National Statistics publication. The statistics are presented as emerging findings and the aim of their release is to help planning, to study trends and to monitor outcomes of initiatives or interventions on pupil attendance. The 2006/07 reporting year is the first for which these reports are being made available. Both the autumn and spring reports will be released simultaneously for this year only. In the next reporting year it is expected that the autumn report will be published in April and the spring report in June. Final absence statistics relating to the autumn and spring terms in 2006/07 (produced using data linked across the two terms) are intended for publication as National Statistics in October 2007. In addition, a Statistical First Release reporting on absence during the full 2006/07 school year is expected to be released in February 2008. This product will add value to previous releases by presenting whole year findings (cumulative results from three termly collections) and providing more detailed analyses of absence by pupil characteristics and persistent absentees. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
